DMK ALKALINE

DMK ALKALINE WASH
DMK Alkaline Wash system is truly a one-of-a-kind treatment, designed to reduce fine, downy, vellus facial hair (aka “peach fuzz”).

Typically this kind of hair is really difficult to remove as the hair growth is usually quite dense and would take a long time to treat with electrolysis. It’s also usually quite light in colour, meaning treatments like laser and IPL won’t work very well in treating this type of hair either.

This is where DMK Alkaline Wash really steps into its own!

It can easily remove larger areas of hair in just one treatment with no discomfort at all, compared to other hair removal methods

DMK Alkaline Wash – FAQs

What is DMK Alkaline Wash and how does it work?
Alkaline Wash is an alkaline powder, which is mixed into a paste and applied to the skin for about 3-4 minutes.
The treatment works by taking the hair to a high alkaline pH in less than 3 minutes, which softens and dissolves the hair and part of the underlying follicle (the bit under the skin that you can't see).
After the first treatment the hair will grow back at its normal rate, but as your treatments progress the re-growth rate becomes slower and slower, usually resulting in permanent hair loss over a period of time.

Will the treatment make my hair grow back thicker?
Absolutely not!
The Alkaline Wash has a dissolving and damaging effect on the hair follicle, so it's actually impossible for the treatment to stimulate hair growth and make it worse, as unlike some other hair removal methods it can't activate dormant hair follicles.
How many treatments will I need and how oftern?
Before you start a treatment programme, you must have a compulsory patch test a minimum of 72 hours before your first appointment. Your first 3 treatments will be spaced 2 weeks apart. When your first 3 treatments have been completed, you'll have one treatment per month for 3 months.
You should have started to see the rate of hair growth slow down in this time, and you might need a follow-up treatment in 2-3 months time. After this, the time in between treatments will become further apart, and for some may not be needed.
Please bear in mind that this is a general guideline as everyone's physiology is different.
It's impossible to precisely estimate how many treatments are needed to achieve permanent hair removal as it's dependent on lots of different things, including how the hair was previously treated, how long it has been there and the reasons behind the hair
growth etc.
Some clients report back with a reduction in hair growth after just one treatment, but there's no guarantee as every client's skin is different.
There's also no guarantee that every client will experience permanent vellus hair removal.

Do I need specific aftercare products following the treatment?
Yes.
As a minimum, you MUST apply DMK Herb & Mineral Mist and Seba-E Oil 2-3 times every day, for 4-5 days following treatment. These are available for purchase in-clinic.
These products help to prevent any discomfort following the treatment, including any redness or dryness you might experience. The skin will be in a more sensitive state than normal following the treatment, and it's important to make sure you follow aftercare given to you.
You'll also need to make sure you're wearing daily broad-spectrum SPF, and if you experience any irritation to the treatment DMK Contraderm may be recommended to you as part of your aftercare protocol too.
Why do I need to patch test prior to the treament?
Patch tests are carried out in the area that is going to be treated, and they're necessary to make sure that your skin is suitable for the Alkaline treatment.
They're a compulsory part of the treatment, and must be carried out a minimum of 72 hours before your treatment.

Are there any side effects to the Alkaline Wash treatment?
The treatment itself is totally pain free, but for some people the area being treated might look a bit red and feel a bit warm or tight. This is totally normal and will subside quickly after your treatment. Your prescribed homecare will also help to tend to the skin after your treatment.
I've got both course and fine hair treatment. Will I be suitable for both?
Yes!
Although the coarser, darker hairs will need to be treated with electrolysis, the downy hair can be treated with Alkaline Wash.
It's advised that you start off a treatment plan like this with Alkaline Wash treatments to remove the denser, downy hair and then "clear up" the area with electrolysis treatments afterwards - this will give you the quickest and most effective permanent clearing of the area.

Why can the Alkaline Wash remove the coarser hairs too?
Coarser, darker hairs sit further down into the dermis of the skin compared to the finer, downy, vellus hairs that Alkaline Wash treats.
Alkaline Wash can't reach these hairs properly, and although you might see a slight difference in their growth, you won't get the same level of removal as seen in the downy, vellus hairs in the area.

What is the difference to Aljkaline Wash and Dermaplaning?
Both treatments are very different to each other.
Dermaplaning uses a scalpel blade to remove surface dead skin cells and hairs. Alkaline Wash uses a paste to destroy the hair follicle and reduce the hair growth of vellus, downy hair.
Dermaplaning doesn't offer either of these benefits.
