PRE + POST TREATMENT CARE

DERMAPLANING

Pre - Treatment

  • Stop Retin-A products for 5 days before your appointment.

  • Avoid laser treatments 4 weeks before treatment.

  • If you are having any sort of chemical peel close to your Dermaplaning, can you please advise Jo of this. There are so many different brands of peels and strengths on the market, Jo can give you a specific time scale to wait before or after your Dermaplaning.

  • No waxing for 7 days prior.

  • Please inform Jo if you are pregnant or nursing.

Post - Treatment Instructions

  • There is no downtime with Dermaplaning so you can continue with your normal activities.

  • You can wear makeup immediately afterwards, but Jo advises to wait until the next day before applying makeup as she recommends with all her facials.

  • Please wear SPF, a treatment that removes the top layer of dead skin will make your skin more sun sensitive.

  • Avoid heat treatments (sauna, steam room etc) for the next 24 hours. Your skin may be more prone to irritation directly after Dermaplaning than it normally would, so sweating can further increase the irritation.

  • Whilst you will have amazing instant results, following a good skincare routine for your skin type will give better long lasting results as the days follow after your treatment. This is because, by removing that top dead layer of skin and the vellus hair you are allowing your skin to increase the amount that it can absorb from topically applied products afterward making them much more effective.

  • You can have another Dermaplaning treatment no sooner than 4 weeks.

  • If you are following a good skincare programme then a course of 4 to 6 treatments is recommended or regular monthly treatments would be great for your skin.

SKIN PEELS

Pre - Treatment

  • No tanning salon or sunbathe for at least 3 weeks before or after a treatment.

  • Discontinue use of Retin-A or any derivative of Vitamin A for 5 days before and after your treatment.

Post - Treatment Instructions
  • Most clients who undergo these treatments have minimal redness for 1-12 hours. Due to the nature of these treatments, you may experience light flaking for a couple of days. Your skin may feel tight and dry. Apply moisturiser as frequently as needed.

  • Unless recommended, do not apply topical medications, AHA or BHA products to the area for 5-7 days after your treatment, as they may be irritating.

  • It is recommended that you do not apply makeup the day of your treatment. It is ideal to allow the skin to stabilise and rest overnight. Makeup can be applied if necessary.

  • Follow your appropriate home care regimen as directed by Jo. Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat for at least 7 days (getting overheated internally can cause hyperpigmentation). Always use sunscreen/sunblock for your protection. Do not pick or pull at any loose skin, as this can cause hyperpigmentation or scarring.

  • Do not have electrolysis, use chemical depilatories or wax the treated area for at least 7 days.

For the next 2 days:
  • Do not put the face directly into a hot shower spray. Do not use a steam room, Jacuzzi, or sauna.

  • Do not go swimming.

  • Do not participate in activities that would cause excessive perspiration.

  • Do not use any means of exfoliation.

  • Do not direct a hair dryer onto treated areas.

MICRONEEDLING

Pre - Treatment

  • Avoid Accutane in the six months prior to beginning your treatment sessions.

  • Do not use topical agents that may increase the sensitivity of your skin such as retinoids, exfoliants, topical antibiotics or acids 5-7 days prior to your treatment.

  • Do not take anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen for at least 3 days prior to your Microneedling session. These will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical for your skin rejuvenation.

  • Avoid IPL/Laser procedures, unprotected sun exposure, or sunburn for at least 2 weeks prior to your procedure.

  • No waxing, depilatory creams, or electrolysis to the area being treated for 5-7 days prior.

  • Do not shave the day of the procedure to avoid skin irritation. If there’s dense hair present in the treatment area, shave the day before you arrive for your appointment.

  • If you’re prone to cold sores, take an antiviral agent for 2 days prior to and the day of the treatment.

  • Avoid blood thinning agents for one week prior because bruising is a common side effect of Microneedling.

Day of Treatment

Knowing what to expect on the day of your Microneedling treatment will make this procedure as comfortable and anxiety-free as possible for you.

What To Expect At Your Appointment

  • Your skin will be cleansed so it’s free of lotion, oil, makeup, powder, or sunscreen.

  • You will be asked to inform of any relevant changes in your medical history and of all the medications you’re taking.

  • You must notify Jo if there are any cosmetic tattoos in the treatment areas.

  • 30-45 minutes prior to your treatment, topical anaesthetic cream will be applied to your skin.

  • The Microneedling treatment typically takes up to 60 minutes to complete.

Post - Treatment Instructions

As with any cosmetic skin treatment, it’s important to look after your skin following a Microneedling procedure for best results.

Post-Treatment Tips

  • Do not take any anti-inflammatory medications for one week after the procedure.

  • Do not use ice on your face, and avoid using arnica. These may interfere with the natural inflammatory process that’s critical for your skin rejuvenation.

  • Avoid sun tanning and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight for at least 2 weeks. After 24 hours, always use sunblock (30 SPF or higher) and wear a hat if you’re outside.

  • Use a painkiller, such as paracetamol, if you experience any soreness.

The Healing Process: What to Expect After a Microneedling Treatment

Microneedling is a quick and non-invasive cosmetic procedure with minimal side effects. However, it’s quite normal to experience the following:

Day 1-3

A sunburn-like effect is normal. Your skin may feel tight, dry or sensitive to touch. Treat the skin gently by washing it with a gentle cleanser, cool water, and using only your hands to pat dry no earlier than 24 hours after treatment.

Some redness may also be present and in some cases, patients may experience slight bruising that can last for 5-7 days and temporary swelling for 2-4 days.

Tips

  • Avoid strenuous exercises that cause sweating as well as jacuzzis, saunas, and steam baths for up to 48 hours.

  • Use only mineral makeup after 24 hours.

  • Sleep on your back with the head of the bed elevated to minimise swelling or pain as needed.

Day 2-7

Peeling may start 3-5 days after the treatment. You’ll notice skin dryness and flaking which is due to an increased turnover of skin cells. DO NOT pick, scratch, or scrub at treated skin!

Important information: You must allow the old skin to flake off naturally and keep it moisturised at all times.

Day 5-7

You may start your regular skin care products again, once your skin no longer feels irritated. Most clients have noticed continued skin improvement over the months following their last treatment.

For best results: Jo recommends follow-up and repeat Microneedling treatments every 4-6 weeks, with a series of 3-5 treatments depending on your personalised care plan.
